About Giulia

Giulia Tamarri is a food guide, tour director, and travel designer from Emilia Romagna. Born in the land of tortellini, she has spent her career doing what, she will tell you, was always written in her genes: guiding people through one of Italy’s most extraordinary food regions.

She is the local guide for the Let’s Eat Modena tour, working with Food Valley Travel to bring guests into the markets, producers, and quieter corners of her home territory. When you walk the streets of Castelvetro with Giulia, or stand in a Parmigiano Reggiano dairy at dawn, you are in the company of someone who has loved this place her whole life.

Her background spans food guiding, tour direction, and travel design. She is also an ambassador for the 45 IGP and PDO products of Emilia Romagna, and a committed supporter of Slow Food values.

Local Love

Giulia’s favorite place in the region is the Museum of Renaissance Costumes in Castelvetro. History and craftsmanship are close to her heart, and this museum, which sits in the medieval village the group visits on tour, speaks to both.

The village itself has a particular character: layered, unhurried, rich with detail. It is the kind of place that rewards attention, and Giulia brings exactly that.

Food at Heart

Ask Giulia what she loves to eat, and she will talk about tigelle.

Tigelle are small, round flatbreads from the Apennine mountains, traditionally made at home and brought to the table warm. You fill them yourself: cured meats, Parmigiano Reggiano, jam, what you like. The whole point is to sit down together and take your time.

For Giulia, that is precisely why they matter. Food, at its best, is shared. It slows a meal down and turns it into something else.

Behind the Scenes

Most of Giulia’s days start the same way: pilates, then work. What comes after varies considerably.

Life as a tour director on the road means the unexpected is routine. One recent moment she remembers: her driver pulled over mid-journey because he wanted to stop and hug an olive tree. This is, she says, the kind of thing that happens, and she would not have it any other way.

Life Beyond Guiding

Giulia is drawn to the natural world. She loves photography, yoga, going to museums, and travel. The curiosity that makes her a good guide is the same one that pulls her toward new places and quiet hours with a camera.

If she were not doing this work, she believes she would be doing something that has to do with beauty. Her answer, without hesitation: interior design.

Philosophy and Aspirations

Giulia’s personal motto is simple: always look at the bright side of life.

She is serious about food education. As an ambassador for Emilia Romagna’s protected products, she cares about where food comes from and how it is made. Her aspiration is for people to make more informed choices about what they eat and buy, and to understand what is at stake when they do not.

Her next goal is to become a certified olive oil sommelier. In a region this rich, she says, there is always more to learn.

You can catch Giulia in Castelvetro on our Let’s Eat Modena & Emilia culinary holiday.
