Guide/Local Partner – Let’s Eat Tanzania

A Legacy of Connection

Joshua Philbert is a Tanzanian travel expert whose passion for tourism runs deep, rooted in personal legacy and sustained by a love for meaningful connection. His journey began early, inspired by his late father, a respected tour guide and mentor. When Joshua lost him at 16, he committed to honoring the dream they once shared: building a people-centered tour company grounded in care and authenticity.

Why He Guides

For Joshua, tourism is far more than logistics—it’s a calling. He thrives on cultural exchange, the spark of human connection, and the quiet power of storytelling. Though naturally reflective, he lights up when introducing guests to Tanzania’s vibrant traditions, landscapes, and cuisines. His calm, thoughtful presence often leaves a lasting impression.

A Favorite Hidden Gem

Ask Joshua for a must-see, and he’ll tell you about Lake Duluti—a tranquil volcanic lake near Arusha, surrounded by lush forest. Often bypassed by travelers racing to safari parks, it’s ideal for kayaking, birdwatching, or simply soaking in the view of Mount Meru. It reflects the kind of travel Joshua loves: slow, meaningful, and rooted in nature.

Food and Family

Food is personal for Joshua. His favorite local dish—ugali with sardines—was the first recipe he learned to cook (and perfected to the point of outshining his mother!). Today, it’s a family favorite and a proud reminder of where his culinary journey began.

A Day in the Life

Joshua’s days are varied—no two are exactly alike. Mornings often involve preparing logistics, but the real joy happens in the field: watching guests spot Mount Kilimanjaro at sunrise or laughing when a cheeky monkey tries to snatch a banana during lunch. These unscripted moments are what make travel magical.

What Drives Him

Inspired by his father’s legacy, Joshua continues to focus on experiences that spotlight not just Tanzania’s wild beauty, but its cultural heart, through food, storytelling, and meaningful community engagement. He believes travel should uplift both guests and locals alike.

Beyond the Tour

When not guiding, Joshua loves to travel, take photos, and unwind with movies and music. His motto is simple, but powerful:

“Treat every person with kindness—you never know what journey they’re on.”

Joshua brings this spirit into every Let’s Eat Tanzania tour, offering guests not just a trip, but a chance to see Tanzania through the eyes of someone who holds it close to his heart.
