Guide to Paris Transportation

Paris is a city of endless culinary delights, historic landmarks, and vibrant culture. To make the most of your gourmet adventure, knowing the best ways to navigate the city is essential. So, let’s dive into the best ways to get around Paris.

Metro: Your Underground Chariot

Paris transportation wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the metro. This underground network is a lifesaver for getting around the city quickly and efficiently. With 16 lines and over 300 stations, the metro is your best friend. You can grab a Navigo card for unlimited travel or purchase single tickets (but not in bulk for a discount unless you get the Navigo Easy Pass). Pro tip: Download the RATP app for real-time updates and easy route planning.

Operating Hours:

5:30 AM to 1:00 AM on weekdays, and until 2:00 AM on Fridays and Saturdays. This may depend on your specific line so always check the RATP website/app.

Ticket Options:

Single tickets (€2.10), Navigo Easy Pass (10 tickets for €17.35 or €1.73 per ticket and the card itself is a one time payment of 2€), or you can get a Navigo carte decouverte for unlimited travel (weekly or monthly).

Useful Apps:

RATP, Citymapper

Purchasing Tickets:

Tickets can be purchased from the ticket machines in metro stations or via the RATP app. Note that paper tickets are being phased out in favor of contactless options but as of June 2024, you can still get the individual t tickets at the ticket machines.

Accessibility:

Some metro stations have escalators, every RER station has escalators AND elevators, but not all metro stations are wheelchair accessible. Some may just have a small set of stairs to walk down to access the station. Check the RATP website for details .
